(SQAUK) LAUREL COUNTY — The intense search for the Kentucky freeway sniper has entered its third day as authorities scour the dense woodland surrounding Interstate 75. The shooter, identified as 32-year-old Timothy Couch, is accused of targeting vehicles and injuring five people in a rampage that began Saturday evening. Couch, who has a military background, abandoned his SUV and an AR-15 rifle near the scene. Police believe he may be hiding in a heavily wooded area, where officers have been hacking through terrain with machetes. The suspect’s familiarity with military tactics has made the search challenging, prompting heightened regional alerts. Schools in the area remain closed, and residents have been urged to report any suspicious activity.
The police have found Couch’s phone and additional ammunition, but the suspect is still on the run. Authorities are using helicopters, drones, and K-9 units to catch him and have set up strategic patrols to prevent his escape from the search perimeter. They are determined to apprehend him.
Local communities remain highly alert, with several events and church services canceled amid ongoing concerns. Despite the tense atmosphere, officials remain confident that the suspect will be found soon.
