(SQAUK) — Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan delivered an outstanding performance at the Southwick National, winning the 250 Moto 1 with an impressive 15-second lead over his closest competitor, Tom Vialle. The race took place on the challenging sandy track, and Deegan’s precise and swift navigation amazed both spectators and competitors.
Deegan grabbed the holeshot, immediately working to distance himself from the pack. Early chaos ensued when Max Anstie and Jo Shimoda went down in the first turn, with Anstie later facing a mechanical problem that took him out of the moto entirely. Meanwhile, Deegan flowed smoothly up front, quickly establishing a five-second lead over Chance Hymas. Under pressure from Tom Vialle, Hymas held his ground before Vialle ultimately overtook him for second place.
Nick Romano had a tough time in the middle of the pack and lost several positions. An intense moment occurred when Ryder DiFrancesco made a bold move that caused Romano to go wide, leading to a collision between Romano and Dilan Schwartz. Schwartz fell off his bike and, while trying to get up, was accidentally hit in the head by Casey Cochran. Luckily, Schwartz was able to get back into the race.
At the halfway point, Deegan held an eight-second lead over Vialle, with Hymas alone in third and Levi Kitchen in a solitary fourth. Although Vialle briefly cut into Deegan’s lead, reducing it to five seconds, Deegan responded by stretching it back to over ten seconds, eventually winning by 15.335 seconds. Ty Masterpool’s late surge saw him catch Jalek Swoll for sixth, but Swoll’s bike quit running, allowing Masterpool to take the spot. Joey Savatgy rounded out the top five but could not close on Kitchen before the checkered flag.
