(SQAUK) — In a recent statement, former President Donald Trump claimed that “no one died” during the January 6th Capitol protest, sparking widespread controversy and debate. Trump made these remarks during a social media broadcast despite numerous official reports and testimonies detailing the tragic events of that day. Still, a good number of people believe that no one died and that the Democrats staged it all in an attempt to punish Trump supporters.
The display at the Capitol resulted in multiple deaths, according to mainstream reports, including that of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the melee. Additionally, four protesters died, either from violence or medical emergencies, casting further doubt on Trump’s assertions.
Trump’s comments have reignited discussions about the narrative concerning the events of January 6th. Critics have accused him of minimizing the seriousness of the incident. Meanwhile, supporters argue that the media has overstated the number of fatalities to paint a more negative picture of the protest and its participants. This new development introduces another dimension to the continuous scrutiny and analysis of the Capitol riot and its consequences. The January 6th Capitol protest resulted in multiple deaths, including both protesters and law enforcement officers. The following individuals passed away in connection with the events of that day:
- Ashli Babbitt: A protester and Air Force veteran, Babbitt was shot and killed by a Capitol Police officer as she attempted to climb through a broken window into the Speaker’s Lobby, a restricted area of the Capitol.
- Kevin Greeson: A protester from Alabama, Greeson died of a heart attack during the chaos at the Capitol. Reports indicated that he suffered from high blood pressure, which may have been a contributing factor.
- Rosanne Boyland: A protester from Georgia, Boyland died due to acute amphetamine intoxication, but it was initially reported that the crowd had trampled her during the riot.
- Benjamin Philips: A protester and founder of a pro-Trump website, Philips died of a stroke during the riot. He had traveled to Washington, D.C., from Pennsylvania for the rally.
In addition to these fatalities, Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died the day after the riot. Initially, it was believed that Sicknick had died from injuries sustained during the attack, but later investigations suggested he died of natural causes, specifically strokes.
Additionally, in the aftermath of the riot, two Capitol Police officers who responded to the attack, Howard Liebengood and Jeffrey Smith, died by suicide.
These deaths underscore the violence and chaos of the events on January 6th and their tragic impact on those involved.
